Malaga is decked out in blue and white to cheer on the local football time in one of its most important matches EVER! Tomorrow’s match against Sporting will be the deciding factor of whether Malaga get’s to play in the Champions League next year. GO MALAGA GO!

This wonderful group sailed in to Malaga on a mega-cruise ship and then ‘sailed’ around Malaga by bike! And a great time was had by all!

Well, looks like it’s not a dying art after all… the bullfighting school in Malaga is thriving! Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon you can see ‘wannabe’s’ from age 3 to 63 practising their ‘arte’ in the bullring of Malaga. Olé!

O.K. , O.K., I know… a bunch of big burly guys don’t want to learn about history and culture,etc….but what if we throw in a bit of FOOTBALL??? That does the trick! These 15 fun guys from Holland got to see ALL of Malaga by bike and MORE! We cycled up to the Rosaleda- Málaga’s Football Stadium- for a guided tour of the grounds and the museum. We even saw Baptista! Now that’s REALLY cool!

14 students came all the way from Norway to celebrate the end of their course in Malaga for three days. Luckily the rain stayed away until ‘just’ after we finished the tour…phew!

On the night of Jueves Santo, Holy Thursday, I had the great privilege of being invited to be BEHIND the giant doors, inside the Brotherhood of the Esperanza to see two of the most impressive Holy Week thrones in Malaga leave their ‘temple’ . It was so incredibly special to get so up close to the fully decorated thrones, feel the anticipation of the ‘hombres del trono’ (the men who carry the thrones), to see the giant doors open to reveal the throngs of people waiting outside, to see under the ‘submarino’ and unfortunately to feel the great sadness and disappointment of a year’s expectations disappear as the decision to call off the procession was made due to inclement weather. In any case, it was an incredible honour to have been there. Hasta el próximo año…si dios quiere.

Boom! Boom! Boom! The streets of Malaga are resonating with the sound of the ‘tambores’ (drums), the haunting strains of trumpets and the burning of incense. Semana Santa is well and truly under way! The fact that a city can put on such a show as this… and it truly is a show, proves how unique and special Malaga is. I LOVE IT!!!

But don’t worry about missing the processions if you are not here at Easter…starting now and all the way up to the start of Easter, you will be surprised by lots of mini-processions taking place on the streets of Malaga. Called ‘traslados’, images of Christ and Mary are carried on mini- tronos from a church to the brotherhood building to be mounted on the huge baroque thrones that are carried through the streets by hundreds of men for hours on end. This photos gives you an idea of what to expect… but on a MUCH grander scale!
