5 Must-see Malaga museums to see on your bike

As well as interesting monuments and great beaches, Malaga also has a long list of museums. In fact, there are more than 30 in the city offering something for all tastes and ages.

Most Malaga museums lie in the city centre, but some of them are just a bit further out, perfect to get to on your Malaga rental bike

We’ve listed five must-see Malaga museums to see on your rental bike. We cover all corners of the city and suggest an extra sightseeing activity when you visit each museum.

And don’t forget, our staff have expert knowledge of Malaga and are more than happy to give you directions on how to get to any of them.

Car & Fashion Museum

Our first recommendation for museums in Malaga to see on your bike is for petrol heads.

One of Europe’s largest private collections of vintage cars awaits you in the old tobacco factory, now restored as a museum.

View vehicles from the earliest cars of all to the modern designs via luxury limousines and motors fit for James Bond himself. There’s a fashion exhibition too with models placed next to the cars sporting the designs of the same era as the vehicles.

Malaga’s Holy Week, Semana Santa is taken very seriously. The Holy Week Museum, Museo de la Semana Santa is located inside the old San Julian Hospital.

It consists of several rooms that offer a behind the scenes look at the celebrations and traditions. There are plenty of robes and thrones, as well as fine art and music related to the Semana Santa.

Need to know

The museum is right in the centre of Malaga and less than a 10-minute cycle from MALAGA BIKE. The quickest way to get there is to cycle or walk along Calle Larios. Following this map.

Glass Museum

If you like shiny things or just enjoy looking at beautiful objects, the Glass Museum is for you.

Located in one of the oldest parts of Malaga city centre, the restored 18th-century mansion (a museum in itself) is home to over 3,000 pieces of glass – stained glass windows, vases, plates, ornaments.

You can also see some unique antiques on the guided tour. Not one for the kids – this is a “do not touch” venue – but this Malaga museum is a must for anyone who enjoys stunning design.

Need to know

The Glass Museum is a 10-minute ride from our Malaga rental bike centre – ask our staff for directions. It opens Tuesday to Sunday 11 am to 7 pm and visits are by guided tour only. €6 for adults.

While you’re there

Pop round the corner to the Jorge Rando Museum, the only expressionist museum in Spain and showcasing the Malaga-born artist’s work.

Temporary exhibitions also take place and the patio inside is lovely. Check out the events listings on the museum website – free concerts take place regularly in the patio and every Saturday lunchtime in the chapel next door. Open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm. Free entry.

Malaga FC

Football fans shouldn’t miss a tour of the Malaga FC museum.

Housed in the Malaga Football Stadium La Rosaleda, the tour includes a look round the stadium (you can walk on the pitch too), the changing rooms and the chance to see the Malaga FC trophy room.

The Club hasn’t managed to make it back into the First Division this season but has a reasonably illustrious past including a quarter-final place in the Champions League.

La Térmica

For a touch of modern art and photography at Malaga museums head to La Térmica Cultural Centre to the west of the city centre.

The building, an orphanage and old people’s home in the 19th century, has lovely architecture inside and out and also houses regular exhibitions.

Photography takes centre stage, although there are also good modern art exhibitions too. Banksy is one example – you can see a broad selection of his work until 15 September 2019.

Need to know

The Térmica is easy to get to from our MALAGA BIKE rental shop – just take the seafront cycle lane west for about 15 minutes. Ask us for a map.

It opens Tuesday to Sunday 11 am to 2 pm and 5 to 9 pm. Free entry to the Centre, admission price for some exhibitions.

While you’re there

Don’t miss the Torre Mónica, the tallest building in Malaga and once the tallest in Spain, on the western seafront.
