Best Bike Tours in Spain

I know I might be biased, but I truly believe that a guided city bike tour is most definitely the best way to get to know a new city. And having been in the best bike tours in Spain business since 2008, I have had the pleasure of meeting other bike tour operators up and down the country over the years. So I thought it would be a nice idea to introduce you to all these wonderful bike tour professionals and their incredible cities.

So let’s begin our bike tour of Spain! Olé!

Best bike tours in spain: beautiful bilbao!

Up in the Basque Country, our friend Aitor and his team at Tourné Bilbao offer amazing guided tours of this once industrial city turned cultural destination.

A quick photo op infront of the impressive Guggenheim Museum.

Taking the Bilbao bike tour I discovered an impressive mix of history and architecture as well as learned about the local Basque traditions and culture. In just three hours, we travelled through time, seeing both the old and new areas of the city: from Bilbao’s shipping industry to lush green parks and the rushing Nervión river, from classic buildings to modern skyscrapers and from old traditions to new passions.

Throughout the tour, our enthusiastic bike guide Nicolien shared her insider stories about the city. We visited ‘El Mercado de Ribera’, the neighbourhood ‘La Vieja’, the spectacular Guggenheim Museum, the San Mamés soccer stadium and the iconic Calatrava bridge ‘Zubizuri’. One thing’s for sure, after this bike tour, you’re going to love Bilbao just as much as I did after taking it!

Best bike tours in spain: spectacular san sebastian!

Just a one hour bus ride east from Bilbao is the must-visit coastal city of San Sebastian. Let our friends Iñigo, Alain and their team at Go Local San Sebastian help you discover this stunning city.

Enjoying the spectacular views over La Concha beach in San Sebastian

I have been to San Sebastian several times over the years. However, I had never taken a bike tour before. (Shame on me!) So the last time I was there, I decided to sign up for the Classic E- Bike Tour with GoLocal San Sebastian and saw places I had never seen before and learned even more about the unique Basque culture. Following the extensive coastline of the city beaches and climbing hills for amazing views was a breeze on the comfortable E-bikes.

We biked through neighbourhoods that tourists- like me- usually miss. One of the highlights- apart from the amazing views- was cycling through a super long old train tunnel. That was very cool! With our guide Alain, we even stopped off at a local sports centre and tried our hand at ‘Basque Pelota’ – a form of handball unique to the region.

Simply the best way to discover this beautiful city, its history and culture.

Now let’s head east to the Costa Brava to our next stop.

best bike tours in spain: bellisima barcelona!

There’s no better way to explore Barcelona than with our friend Ernest and his team at Born Bike Tours.

Exploring Ciutadella Park in Barcelona by bike

This tour is perfect for history, art and architecture lovers! The majority of the tour takes place on the fantastic network of bike paths that Barcelona has to offer. It really is a cyclists dream. Exploring the old town, we learned about ancient and medieval Barcelona.

Cycling through the maze of streets in the Gothic quarter was really cool. Also, the tour takes in all the major archectural creations of Gaudi including, of course, a stop at the amazing Sagrada Familia.

I just loved the neighbourhood of ‘Born’ with the incredible Santa Maria del Mar Basilica and the renovated market hall. Biking around the Ciutadella Park and through the Arc de Triomf was great fun, too!

Did you know that from Barcelona you can take a ferry to arrive at our next bike tour destination?

The Cathedral -a masterpiece of Gothic architecture- is truly mindblowing! Another architectural wonder, La Lonja, was an absolute delight to see as was the refuge of Kings- the Royal Palace of La Almudaina,

Our bike guide also showed us hidden corners of the city that we would never have found by ourselves and he intrigued us with local legends and stories that only Palma residents would know.

A truly memorable bike tour!

We’re heading back to the mainland now to our next bike tour adventure.

Cycling through the spectacular City of Arts & Sciences in Valencia

This tour is absolutely the best way to discover Valencia’s charming streets and hidden squares as well as its most important monuments and historical sites. Combining the old with the new, we cruised past historical buildings like the Quart Towers and the more modern City of Arts & Sciences.

We started our bike tour cycling through the unique Turia Gardens, created from a former riverbed which stretches for 13 kilometres through the city- and bike paths all the way. I loved it!

Riding through the City of Arts & Sciences was definitely a highlight of the tour. Probably nowadays one of the most famous landmarks of Valencia, it’s like cycling through a futuristic landscape. The architectural wonders were designed by world-acclaimed architect Santiago Calatrava.

Time now to head to the nation’s capital- just two hours by train from Valencia.

My bike tour in Seville was an unforgettable experience. Discovering the magical neighbourhoods of the city by bike was a delight. Our bike guide really brought the city to life with stories and legends of Seville as well as being super knowledgeable about the city’s history and modern-day life.

For me the highlights were cycling along the River Guadaquivir and through the Maria Luisa park to visit the spectacular Plaza de España.

We had plenty of stops to take pictures en route and at the end of the tour we got lots of great tips on nearby places to visit, restaurants, tapas bars and flamenco shows.
