Cycling in Málaga

Where can I cycle in Málaga?

Cycling is not allowed in the pedestrian areas of the historic city centre, on sidewalks or pedestrian areas like parks and squares.
However, there are excellent and safe cycling routes* outside the centre, including:

  •  East towards Rincón de la Victoria (flat coastal route)
  • West towards Torremolinos (easy seaside cycling, passing through a nature reserve)
  • North towards the Botanical Gardens (mainly bike path then quieter roads)
*Approx. 80% of the above bike routes take place on car-free paths and bike lanes.
Our team will recommend the best cycling routes in Málaga based on your level and interests.
Where can I park the bike during the day?

The law states that you should first look for a proper bike parking spot. If there is no proper bike parking, then the bike can be locked to a lamp-post or fence, etc. Please use common sense when parking the bike. Make sure to not block any paths, ramps, etc. and to leave enough space for people to easily pass, especially for those in wheel-chairs. Always lock the bike TO something, putting the chain lock through one wheel, the frame of the bike and around a post or parking so that nobody can just pick up the locked bike and walk away with it.

What other laws should I know about related to cycling in Malaga?

It is illegal to:
– Talk on your mobile while cycling
– Wear headphones, ear-buds. Fines for both can be up to 200€.
