Distances for this cycling in Malaga route to the north from the MALAGA BIKE shop to:
La Rosaleda Malaga F.C. stadium – 3 kms; Botanical Gardens – 7 kms; El Limonero Dam – 8 kms.
This is an easy route to do from the centre of Malaga. Leaving the MALAGA BIKE shop, turn left on the Alameda Principal. Cross the (usually) dry river Guadalmedina using the bike path. The cycle path will lead you past El Corte Ingles – the famous Spanish Department Store.
Then follow the bike path up Calle Armengual de la Mota to the Malaga FC. Stadium- La Rosaleda.
Did you know?
Malaga F.C. had one glorious season in the Champions League in 2013. Incredibly, they made it to the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, they were beaten by Borussia Dortmund in the last five minutes of the game. Of course, we all believe it was a conspiracy!
To find out more about the history of the Malaga Football club, read our blog.

Indeed, for all you football fans, why not take a tour of the stadium and its museum? The stadium staff are very bike-friendly. Surprisingly, they will let you park your bikes inside. (Don’t try that at Old Trafford!)
After the stadium, continue following the bike path (east and then north). The path ends at the Sports Centre Ciudad Jardin.
Continue going north one block. At the Repsol gas station, turn right. At the next roundabout, take the third exit. (You will see signs for Jardin Botanico).
Follow the road until you see this tunnel on your left.

Go through the tunnel.

Cycling in Malaga North to the Botanical Gardens
To visit the botanical gardens turn left on the other side of the tunnel. They have bike parking inside once you have paid the entrance fee. The gardens are open every day except Monday from 9:30 a.m. From April 1st- Sept. 30th they close at 8:30 p.m. From Oct. 1st to March 31st they close at 5:30 p.m.

Did you know?
Interestingly, the Botanical Gardens was once the private estate of one of the most influential people in 19th Century Malaga, Jorge Loring. His cultured wife. Amalia Heredia, loved plants and flowers as well as archaeology. Thanks to them we have this impressive historical garden in the city.
Cycling in Malaga North to the Limonero Dam
Undoubtedly it is a great idea to visit the reservoir ”La Presa El Limonero.” Simply turn right after the tunnel. The entrance gate is a little up the road on your left.

Then it is just a 1 km cycling in Malaga ride to spectacular views over the city, the botanical gardens and the montes of Malaga. The Limonero dam, built in 1983, is the main supplier of water to the city of Malaga. It also regulates the flow of water to the River Guadalmedina, that runs through the centre of the city.

Did you know?
Clearly, many people use the usually dry River Guadalmedina in the centre of Málaga as a recreation area. However, don’t get caught out! The first Wednesday of every month, they open up the Limonero dam and release water into the river area. For this reason, many an unsuspecting dog-walker has had a soggy surprise!
We hope you have fun cycling all of our MALAGA BIKE routes!
